Trip 1 (Feb 2016): After the Gregorian calendar (the one we all use!) new year celebrations the next major holiday in Malaysia was Chinese New Year (the lunar calendar). As we had a few days off work for the festivities we decided to invite some friends to come and stay with us. It was Peter and Mark's first time in Asia so decided to come here for a total of two weeks so they could see a few places. They started off in Kuala Lumpur where, due to a convenient placed work conference, I (Dan) was able to have an evening out with them in the city: some late-night Roti Canai and Nasi Lemak is a perfect compliment to a few beers of an evening!
I flew back down to JB after my work conference and left the guys to a couple of days of soaking up the sights of KL. Then, on the weekend of CNY, we met them back in KL for our onward journey to Langkawi (again!). I turns out that flying is MUCH quicker than the sleeper train. Again, a great time was had on Langkawi - lovely beaches, lots of laughs, gorgeous food, incredible sunsets, jet skis and duty free booze (not these two together though)! All in all, lots of fun.
Cocktails at sunset! |
Took a walk to see some of Langkawi's beautiful waterfalls...
A nightcap of duty free rum and coke!
After Langkawi it was back down to JB for a few days of work (for us) and more exploring (for them). Then at the weekend a trip to Singapore to see some sites of the big city. This time we decided to stay in Chinatown on the Saturday night. Again, a great time was had exploring the streets of Singapore:
Who's that 'lying' over there??
Gardens by the bay
Walking around the Gardens by the bay with Marina Bay Sands in the background
Everyone feeling a tad on the warm side...
After Singapore there was one final night out for us all before we had to say goodbyes :(
Chinese New Year is definitely a celebration that we should have in the UK - it would also mean an extra couple of days off work to do fun things! We had a great time with our visitors and hope they enjoyed their first taste of Asia (I think they did as they already want to come back out!).
Anyway, that was a little review of one of our trips of 2016, more to follow shortly....(won't be such a delay this time)
